Stress factor among university students

Stress factors among students studying university level is increasing rapidly by over burden of work and social problems. University students are the adults, the manpower and nation builders of tomorrow facing serious challenges that sometimes unresolvable.  Depression in previous decades was common among aged persons but nowadays common in youngsters.

There are many serious incidents and deaths of students are recorded in universities and day by day the ratio is increasing hazardously. How much justice was provided or how they were handled by authorities is another debate but what are the major factors that raised these incidents is the most important question to investigate.

The most highlighted Dr, Nimirta’s case, how it is handling by authorities is dreadful. Is justice provided to Naila Rind a University graduate suicided and what were the recommendations of Noreen Laghari MBBS student’s case that joined Daish?

Universities are the institutions where youngsters come for advance education the modern trends and specialized knowledge not for demise. In such incidents how much parents suffer and experience the nastiest, only they know better.

This is the best time for policy maker’s to perform their role and introduce mental health education at university level to minimize such incidents. Add fine variety interactive activities that must sustain the positive impact over students.

Consequences of growing population on environment

Human beings are occupying world lands rapidly and dangerously destroying the environment to live in for themselves and also for others creatures. By rapid growth in population, pollution and consumption of resources brutally, no strategic planning to clean environment would take human beings over the narrow paths from where it might be impossible to return or restore. Heavy rains (floods) and rise of temperature are alarming to think for tomorrow to save lives or at least control it on priority basses.

The population of the world according to Population Reference Bureau census 2017 was 7.5 billion people. The growth rate is about 1.7% per year which is estimated 82 million people. The increase in population means decrease in resources that is thoughtful situation for the world today. Nowadays we are suffering from heavy traffic load on roads, unemployment and poverty, poor quality of health and education, increase in criminal activities are the main cause of over population.

Ingestion of resources brutally led the over flow of prices and uneasy access to everybody is creating trouble. Government is taking taxes, but for the little profit they are producing substantial losses for tomorrow although motivating the people indirectly. For an example government should make intercity trams or better transport system to avoid huge traffic flows on roads and consumptions of gasoline would be reduced which is fruitful to environment and reduction of resources too. However, the transport system working privately is quite better than public mass transits e.g: public railways that are time consuming.

It is untrue that our government is doing nothing for the better life of people today and for tomorrow but unfortunately they are not up to the mark in a sense that working without proper planning. In other words we can say bad governance evade planning by not assuring the balance the forecast that something might be more hazardous than profit actually. After agriculture, factories are the main source of economy and provide opportunities of employment but on the other side these are abolishing environment. There are set policies and standards for the protection of atmosphere again then implementation is almost zero. Individually we are so suffocated not to feel any responsibility, lack of guidance and motivation is almost missing. We always try to facilitate ourselves, drop garbage where no one could see, travel individually (own vehicles) then in collect trips.

In a nutshell, such state of environment is still habitable but for the short time. The population may increase from 7.7 billion currently to 9.8 billion in 2050, then what is our planning to save resources and protect environment? There is indispensable need of optimist thinking to overcome these problems smoothly. Government should take strict actions in violation of laws that are harmful to our environment and make sure efficiency of public transports to pause motivation of personal vehicles on roads.

ICT-enhanced learning environments

The role of teachers in the ICT-enhanced learning environment is extremely important. The motivation of facilitator play vital role in teaching learning process. The trained and adept in modern technologies would increase learners’ interest and inspiration.

The teachers are the role models for the students in schools and the society; students normally copy the acts of teachers so they must set examples for them to do so. Well trained individuals that have sufficient knowledge of modern tools and teaching experience should be hired.

The competencies required of teachers to take up this role

The expertise in ICT- enhanced learning environment is very much needed to meet with desired results of students’ engagement in effective way.

However, if facilitator is not up to the mark how he/she will inspire others to do something even good for them. Proper trained and motivated individuals should be hired with fringe benefits as low work load, give extra time for innovative ideas, help in class activities and group settings and full access to all ICT related tools available in schools.

Support teachers in using ICT to engage students and enhance their learning outcomes

The motivation of teacher is crucial in any form of teaching or learning. During class activities, ICT facilitators need help from their colleague in engaging students in learning process i-e: making groups, distribute tablets and assist students individually etc.

They need extra time to set classes and search new sources for active learning process.

I have observed personally that head teacher or principal engage IT/Computer teacher in irrelevant task for example in paper settings, printings and computer installations etc.

The schools management should arrange resources and facilitate trainer in this respect to work without interruptions.

It is duty of state to make sure the complete resources in schools and arrange training sessions for schools heads and higher officers facilitate learners to get quality education to meet with 21st century standards.

Educational Policy 2019

01Vision / Objective /Aims
Make sure the involvement of all the stake holders in policy making specially those who are going to implement policy. Azeem

Patriotic vision is favorable in policy making of the country. Stories of great heroes of homeland as well as world heroes are added in the curriculum. History, including past conflicts (internal/external), either favorable or not is added truthfully to convey lessons learnt.
Indeed, majority of our public is Muslim, yet there should be choice of subject at every stage, no compulsory subject. Vision of the policy is to make good humans, not good Muslims.

02Primary/Secondary Education and Management

It is free and compulsory for all.
Appointment of teachers is purely on merit and subject-wise.
Train teachers properly for effective teaching and make a mechanism for quality assurance.
Traditional teaching methods are replaced by modern trends, integration of ICT, equip schools with AV aids, white boards, and well equipped libraries. At this stage more focus is on critical thinking rather than on mere content learning.

03Higher Education

A compulsory training is given to all university graduates in their respective fields. All organizations are bound to spare at least 5% quota for internship and training for fresh graduates.
Higher education is free till doctorate level. Certain scholarships are awarded to needy and meritorious students. Special programs such as weekend/off-campus for job holders (professionals), are initiated. Employers are bound to give NOCs and study leaves to their employees.

04Medium of Instruction

At primary level, education is imparted in students’ mother tongue. However, English and Urdu are optional languages from class six and onward as medium of instruction. To avoid conflicts, everyone respects each other’s languages.

05Religious and Madrassa Education

Madrassa is concerned with religious education. All religions of the world preach peace and welfare of human beings.
Madrassas avoid extremist approaches that create problems for other religious minorities.   In Madrassa, it is believed that Western and scientific education is not suitable for Muslims. Government makes committees that convince them to take part in scientific and modern education.

06Curriculum

Same curriculum is used by all educational institutions.
There is need of reforms in curriculum and textbook designing. Subject experts and all stakeholders (professors, teachers and students) are involved in curriculum framework and design. Curriculum is according to the current needs of learners.

07Gender and Education

Co-education is the best mode of learning and highly appreciated in the world. However, in specific areas of our country more schools and colleges for girls are opened to increase and encourage female education. There is a big gape of literacy among male and female citizens, so provide more opportunities like promotion of distance education and stipends to girls.

08Private Education

It is a non-profit business; ownership of private educational institutions is only allowed to educationists.
Private institutions follow rules and regulations set by the government. There is a fix percentage (5%) for the poor and private institutions never increase fees without coordination with the government.

09Literacy and Non-formal Education

Literacy of male and female is raised to equal ratio.
Rural population is deprived of literacy due to lack of facilities and socio-economic conditions. So, steps are taken to fill that gap and provide equal education opportunities to every citizen. There is ban on child labor.

10 Technical Education

Diversion to specific field, for example technical, medical, engineering and arts/commerce occurs after matriculation.
It is widely observed that the workforce, technicians, drivers, laborers etc. are mostly illiterate or have improper qualifications (education) that create problem. Basic education (certification) towards their specific field is mandatory. It is a duty of the concerned institution to provide one-year compulsory apprenticeship to all diploma holders.

11Political Scenario

Although political leaders are the governors of organizations, still there is no direct influence of politics in educational institutions and students. Student politics is encouraged in limited boundaries.

12 Teacher Training’s and Service Conditions

Appointment of teachers is purely on merit and subject specific and need based.
Trainers themselves are highly trained who are motivated by giving fringe benefits.
Before and after-service teachers’ training programs are compulsory. A team of experts inspects the whole process from teachers’/trainers’ qualifications, their interaction during training. It is shared with policy makers for improvement.

Educational Innovations

Change is permanent is old prob have eminent meaning in current day by day changing world. Institutions, organizations, companies would die before their actual deaths those who are not adapting new philosophies or do not take risk . Similarly individuals who avoid change are endangering their careers. The reason behind the focus of organizations over newer employees rather than seniors is their work stamina and adaptive characteristics.

Similarly, educational innovations can create constellations of ideas from students to students and others persons of the society rapidly and in convenient way. Information and communication technology help in engaging and inspiring individuals to learn more knowledge any where any time.

Role of government

It is the foremost responsibility of government to provide basic infrastructure including latest ICT tools and trained facilitators to integrate in learning process effectively by institutions.

Role of Teachers

The facilitators’ role is the most important in usability of ICT aids in education to motivate learners in advance trends of learning. Their influence impact directly than anyone else even their parents.
